Day two of the championships were all of the finals and the team did not disappoint. Both teams finished in third place with some stellar performances from the athletes. We picked 19 huge points in the 60 meter dash with Hargrove, Marshall, and Goodwin going 2,3,4. Another great race came in the sprints with us picking up 24 points with Hargrove, Garrett, Mortel, and Colvin placing 1,2,4,8. In the 400 meter dash, we had good perfomences from Mortel, Colvin, and Garrett again going 1,4, and 8. Wilner Marcelin paced the hurdles with a third place finish, with a school record of 7.99. Antonio Combs and Eugene Canaday picked up 4th place in the triple jump and high jumps respectively. Davion Bowers picked up a point in the shot put, and Johnathan Lester gave us a point in the Men's Heptathlon. It was a hard fought performance on the Men's side with a lot of conference champions and 2nd and third place performances. It felt good seeing all the hard work pay off, and I hope it will carry them to the national meet in North Carolina. On the Women's side, Darby and Scott went 2 and 4 in the 60 meter dash. Darby broke the school record with a 7.68 and a provisional qualifying time for nationals. It felt good to see that because I helped with the recruitment of Darby and Scott, and to see them blossom is a blessing. In the 200, Deskins took 2nd and Darby took third. It was a great performance from both of the ladies. Overall, I was pleased to be apart of the team considering just last year, I was in the same predicament as them competing. They showed a lot of heart out there and we will see how the momentum carries over to the national meet later this month.
