Fermon Tate Jr. is a native of Detroit, Mi with over 27 years of track and field coaching experience under his belt. He started off coaching AAU track and field for youth and worked his way up the ranks. Coach Tate has won 7 state track and field titles in the high school ranks, coached the fastest high school four hundred runner in the nation Kendall Baisden and had numerous athletes on the US junior and World Teams. His son Fermon Tate III received a scholarship to Central Michigan under his father's coaching and graduated. His Daughter Sierra received a scholarship to University of Michigan and graduated with honors.
Tate competed at Mississippi Valley State University were he won 2 national title with the team. Then he transferred to Eastern Michigan where they produced MAC conference titles as well. He is w well- known role model and coach throughout the country and it is a honor to have the opportunity to get more insight in what the "Great Tate " has to teach. Recently one of Coach Tate's former runners Kendall Baisden just won the junior world youths title in the 400 meter dash, and with honor she graciously thanked coach Tate for his services. Coach Tate helped the track and field program to the highest finish in school history, and the first ever National Champion Lamar Hargrove who swept the short sprints.
