My name is Derrick Young Jr, and I currently reside in Tiffin, Ohio. I am originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where I lived the majority of my life. I attended Kentucky State University where I compete on a nationally ranked track and field team for 3 years before transferring to Tiffin University, competing and finishing my degree. I been playing sports since I was in kinder-garden, and they helped me build relationships and skills that will potentially help others mature. It has always been my passion to help others since I was younger, as I grow into a man, I now understand my foot steps.
After graduating from Tiffin, Coach Croy asked me if I was interested in obtaining my masters and being a graduate assistant here at the university. I was ecstatic to have the opportunity to work as the facilities manager from the school and to work closely with Coach Darby and Dillion Klien with intramural sports. This helped give me experience with sporting events held here at the university and how to manage recreational sports. I also assisted with the track team giving tours to potential athletes. Throughout this time, I learned a lot about the process of recruiting, financial aid, track and field, and overall coaching and ethical decisions.
I currently work at Woodforest National Bank part time in addition to my mentor ship with the track team and my graduate assistant position. Time was very limited and I have to make the best of every minute I have to complete my goals, but this is what I want to do in life so through the adversity I will give it 100%. I will graduate with my degree in October and plan on moving to San Antonio Texas and building my legacy as a coach or mentor towards others.
